HRM Meetings/Updates
Survey regarding short-term rentals
The municipality is consulting with residents and industry to understand the impact short-term rentals (STRs) have within our region. STRs have become increasingly popular over the past several years, cities and municipalities across the country are exploring means for regulating or monitoring their use.
This feedback will help inform Council when it is time for us to make any decisions related to how STRs are regulated in the municipality.

Annual Fall Street Leaf Cleanup Program.
The annual Fall Street Leaf Cleanup Program begins Monday, Nov. 18th and concludes on Friday, Dec. 6th. Crews will begin collecting and removing leaves from streets in the heavily-treed areas of the Halifax peninsula first and, as required, in other areas of the urban core. Please note this service will happen only once on a street-by-street basis.
Temporary ‘No Parking’ signs will be posted in neighbourhoods prior to cleanup in that area. To facilitate proper cleanup, residents are asked to abide by posted signage and not park on the street. The potential for street flooding increases greatly when catch basins are clogged with debris. Each household can place a maximum of 20 bags at the curb on the designated collection day. Each bag can weigh no more than 25 kilograms (55 pounds). For details on the scheduled cleanup for neighbourhoods on the Halifax peninsula,

Municipal Role in Supporting Food Security Report
HRM has a strategic role to play in developing sustainable food systems and promoting food security. It is estimated that 1 in 5 HRM households experience food insecurity; municipalities can influence the design of communities and the provision of services which directly impact access to food and the strength of the local food system. This is a very important first step for the municipality in realizing what our role is when it comes to food insecurity.
